Chief's
Island Walking Trail. Level 3 Introduction: Delta Camp
is offering guests to the Okavango Delta a unique opportunity to explore the
unspoiled southern portions of Chief's Islands on the Chief's Island Walking Trail,
a fully-serviced trail into the wilds of the Okavango. Guests will spend their
first and last nights in the supreme comfort of Delta Camp itself, followed by
a minimum of two nights, and a maximum of four, in a fly-camp set up specifically
for the purpose on Chief's Island. This is one of the world's
premier wilderness experiences, combining spectacular wildlife opportunities,
true wilderness walking with fully qualified and local guides, and camping in
comfort. More on Delta Camp Situated on the South Western edge of Chief's Island
in the heart of the Okavango Delta is Delta Camp - set in the forest of a large,
beautiful and palm-studded island. Window onto Chief's Island - Quintessential
Delta Camp The amazing design of the Chalets is such that you enjoy the luxuries
of a 'top rate' hotel, but without affecting the environment; you will find you
share your chalet with the trees, while taking full advantage of the views of
the surrounding bush and flood-plains. Delta Harmony (Chalet,
ONE with nature) - Delta Camp Delta Camp adheres to a philosophy that guests
may enjoy the "luxury" of their own private guide at no extra cost The guides
are truly "locals" - this is a man of the swamp, born and raised in the area,
and you will spend your days in his mokoro (dug-out canoe) and walking on some
of the many islands in the area, taking in the magnificent scenery and light,
and the abundant game- and bird-life of the Okavango. Delta Camp is also one of
a few establishments that accommodates children and thus families are most welcome.
Delta Camp engenders in its staff and guests alike an acute
awareness of the ecological sensitivity of this magnificent area. Bio-degradable
products have been sourced and are used, Careful separation and treatment of refuse
ensures that nothing that is not fully bio-degradable stays on the island - light
aircraft remove cans, bottles and the like from the Okavango altogether- thus
the staff and guests are continuously contributing towards a healthier environment.
More on the Chief's Island Walking Trail. The main aim of this portion of the
safari is to provide a highly personalized walking safari experience to guests,
whilst focusing on each and every element of this marvelous eco-system. Guest
numbers are limited to 6 at a time. The Southern portion of Chief's Islands has
no commercial camps/ lodges and is a pristine wilderness area. The
entire Chiefs Island is widely regarded by many to be the very best place to view
game in the entire Okavango delta. Prior to departure guests will be asked to
make a selection of favorite drinks to take along on the walking safari from the
well stocked bar at Delta Camp. This will include soft drinks, beers, spirits
and wines. Guests will depart from Delta Camp, slowly making their way to Chief's
Island. Each professional guide at Delta Camp is assigned a young trainee who
acts as assistant, porter and an extra pair of eyes to help spot some of the incredible
wildlife we are bound to encounter. The trainees will carry picnic goodies and
guests' personal items to enhance the guest experience whist walking on and around
Chief's Island. It is important to note that all game encountered will be on foot
- and game generally takes flight when approached too close. The
campsites we use are all positioned to afford maximum comfort for guests - whilst
camping out! Camp chairs provide seating under the shade of ancient trees. Accommodation
is in dome tents with comfortable bedrolls and fine linen - ablutions are a simple
bucket shower and a hygienic toilet. No need for alarm clocks here - a cacophony
of sounds greets guests early each morning! Meals are both creative and innovative
and are served al-fresco under African skies by the camp cook. Chiefs Island Walking
Trail Camp After a minimum of two nights, and a maximum of four camping on Chiefs
Islands, guests return to Delta Camp for the last night. We
look forward to welcoming you to our small piece of Paradise where you will not
only experience the magnificent array of wildlife, BIG and small but also meet
