Sun and Sandals organizes seasonal saltwater fly-fishing at the mouth of the Mtentu River in Pondoland, Eastern Cape and at Kosi Bay in Maputaland, KwaZulu Natal. This amazing fishing experience is a formal partnership with the local community-for planning, decision - making and employment- and through sound environmental management natural resources are conserved and benefits flow to rural communities. For instance in 2002, fishermen at the camps caught 165 fish but only one was killed. Ten fish were tagged for research purposes. The camps have brought such benefits to the local community in the Mtentu Marine Reserve, that the Giant Kingfish is now known as "izinkomo zethu" - our cattle- indicating that the fish are seen as an asset to be nurtured and protected. Contact Sun and Sandals Tour Code:Flyufu01 Sun and Sandals also have a range of fly-fishing options available within the Mpumulanga region, a nature and history-lover's paradise. This is probably South Africa's fly-fishing Mecca with little hamlets such as Dullstroom which provides for excellent fishing, bird watching, also known for its annual carpet of bright yellow arum lilies and over 120 other species of indigenous flowers. Mpumulanga makes an easy self-drive option with accommodation of all sorts; self catering, quaint BB's, luxury hotels. For the adventurous type Sun and Sandals can package tours combining the best of Mpumulanga whilst getting your dose of fishing: excursions to the Kruger for game viewing, tours to the Cultural heartland of the Ndebele or the Wild Frontier known for its hot springs and hydro. The wetlands here provide for fascinating historical tours, this is also Cosmos Country. Contact Us for more information |
