Bordering East London are two major townships, Duncan Village and Mdantsane, the
second largest black township in South Africa after Soweto in Gauteng. This orientation
tour, conducted by a local community guide, will give the visitor an overview
of day-to-day life in a South African Township. Community projects are visited
and Xhosa cultural traditions are discussed. A visit to a local shebeen (tavern)
gives you a chance to soak up the local culture. Above all you will be exposed
to the complexities of life in a township and how the modern and traditional ways
of life are mixed. Day
