The
tours are focused on the amazing community based projects that have been successfully
initiated in South Africa encompassing the agricultural sector, mining, arts and
crafts, fishing, feeding schemes, Aids awareness, education, housing, the waste
disposal industry and more. Tours concentrate
on initiatives which offer a solution to both community and environment, whilst
tying in South Africa’s history with the current Constitutional process
to offer “thinking tours” showing the depth, scope and complexities
of a democracy in action. These are “hands
on” experiences, a chance to physically encounter the community on a one
to one basis. You will be able to meet with courageous, vibrant, talented South
African communities of all ages, from all walks of life. Township entrepreneurs
will open up their homes, residents will walk and talk with you, and school children
will open up their classrooms. Small enterprises welcome you to their floors as
they proudly show you their products and their expertise. These are intimate and
personal journeys, always different and varied as the South African people share
their daily lives, stories and cultural heritage with you. On
the project sites you will be able to work with the people themselves, for instance,
go fishing with fishermen/ladies, pile on bricks with residents building their
own homes, keep bees behind netted vests with local street children, take a small
tractor with the residents and help them pick fruit in the stunning rugged mountain
landscapes of the Cape, take a dancing lesson with talented Township dancers,
go horse riding or canoe boating with communities. Taste
authentic cultural cuisine, from traditional Beer , Biltong and Putupap, the ever
popular Township steamed bread to large homely mugs of Rooibos tea with equally
friendly amounts of Ouma’s Rusks. Hear the sounds of Township living; laughing
children rapidly moving, hooting taxis; friendly vendors; hair dryers of numerous
colorful hair salons or the Rural sounds of; crickets, piet-my-vrou's, African
drums and cultural songs whilst rural women sit in community circles making pots,
mats, beadwork. You are invited to join the circle. Amongst residents meet well
respected elders and projects which aim to reintroduce and save threatened indigenous
knowledge, work with community projects where the artists are AIDS sufferers or
handicapped. These communities are keen to share their views, opinions and thoughts
and offer their advice and solutions. Join us
on our incredible tours throughout South Africa, meeting vibrant, dynamic people
making a difference to their circumstances and their community. Not only will
you open your eyes to an amazing set of experiences, but you
will be helping these people to continue doing their phenomenal work. search
